Seven warships and search-and-rescue patrol aircraft were deployed from the Third Area Command at Cape Panwa, on Phuket’s east coast, on May 29.
Among them was the the guided missile frigate HTMS Saiburi and the HTMS Angthong, a landing platform dock ship that is acting as a floating hospital. (See story here).
The HTMS Angthong has been provisioned with more than 10,000 packages of instant noodles, 10,000 bottles of water and 5,000 cans of fish in order to provide any humanitarian assistance required. (See story here)
“The Royal Thai Navy Third Fleet is continuing its operation to provide assistance to any migrant vessels that arrive in Thai waters,” Vice-Admiral Sayan Prasongsamrej, Commander of the Royal Thai Navy’s Third Naval Area, told The Phuket News yesterday (June 11).
“But so far, we have yet to find a single vessel carrying Rohingya or any other migrants arriving in that area,” he added.
“The seven ships deployed and their aircraft will continue with this mission until we receive new orders,” V/Adm Sayan confirmed.
