The deceased was named as 29-year-old Dendao Pimsorn.
Accompanied by Kusondharm rescue workers, police arrived to the scene at a house in Ban Rieng Soi 2 in Moo 3 of Thalang's Thepkrasattri sub district, where they found the deceased lying on his back on a bed.
His tongue was sticking out from his mouth, and there were bruise marks around his neck, presumably left by the rope he'd hung with.
The man, wasn't wearing a shirt and had tattoos on his left front chest and shoulder.
Police estimated that he'd been dead for no less than 2 hours before they'd arrived.
About 20 metres from the body, police found a white rope hanging from a branch of a Santol tree (ต้นกระท้อน). On the ground there was a white plastic chair and a pair of white sneakers.
The deceased's mother, Ms Ieang told police that she had discovered her son hanging from the said tree early this morning, and her and relatives proceeded to retrieve the body and place it on the bed before notifying police.
“From our investigation so far, we think he may have killed himself because he was emotionally distressed after having a fight with his girlfriend. In any case, we've taken photographic evidence and transported the body to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination,” said Pol Lt Col Sanit Nudong.
The case represents the second suspected suicide in Phuket today, following the discovery of a hanged 53-year-old Austrian. (Story here.)
