Officers from Thalang Police were called to a pond at Baan Lipon, Moo 2, Srisoonthorn, at 7:53am after receiving a report that a body had been found in the water.

Police and rescue workers arrived to find the body of Somyot Suksaeng, 51, in the pond, Thalang Police reported.

According to relatives, Mr Somyot had no regular employment and supported himself by fishing. Family members told police that he regularly consumed alcohol, often had little appetite and suffered from recurring seizures.

Relatives explained that Mr Somyot had gone fishing at the pond near his home at about 7pm on Friday evening (June 27), using hook-and-line gear, but failed to return.

A doctor who conducted a preliminary examination at the scene said Mr Somyot was believed to have either fainted or suffered a seizure before falling into the water and drowning.

Police confirmed that no injuries or signs of a struggle were found on the body.

The body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a full post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death.
