Tha Chatchai checkpoint bust nets 202 meth pills

PHUKET: A 37-year-old man from Ranong was arrested after police discovered 202 methamphetamine (ya bah) pills concealed beneath the roof lining of his pickup truck during an inspection at the Phuket Checkpoint in Mai Khao Wednesday afternoon (July 1).

The arrest was made at about 3:30pm by officers from Tha Chatchai Police Station during a vehicle inspection operation at the checkpoint on the only road linking Phuket with the mainland.

Police identified the suspect as Anan Saisawa, 37, of Bang Non Subdistrict, Mueang Ranong District.

During the inspection, officers searched a white Isuzu D-Max pickup truck bearing Surat Thani licence  plates and found 202 ya bah pills, a Category 1 narcotic, hidden beneath the vehicle’s roof lining.

Police also seized the pickup truck and an Oppo mobile phone as evidence.

Anan was charged with possession of a Category 1 narcotic and was informed of the charges and his legal rights before being handed over to investigators at Tha Chatchai Police Station for further legal action.

Police did not disclose whether the suspect admitted the offence or where the drugs were believed to have originated.
