Officers from Wichit Police Station confirmed the arrest yesterday (Apr 29), following an investigation into the incident that occurred in the early hours of Apr 17.
The case gained attention after CCTV footage showed the suspect entering Wai Photchana restaurant on Narang–Borrae Rd at about 3am.
The burglary was thwarted when the owner, Saiwai Chantharamuang, 46, who was still awake inside, came out to confront the intruder.
Armed with a samurai sword, Mr Saiwai chased the suspect from the premises and struck him once with the blunt side of the weapon in an effort to stop his escape.
The suspect fled the scene with only minor injuries, and no property was reported stolen.
Later that day, at 4:07pm, Mr Saiwai filed a formal complaint with Wichit Police, requesting officers expedite efforts to identify and apprehend the suspect.
According to police, investigators reviewed CCTV footage and expanded their enquiries, eventually identifying the suspect as a 19-year-old man from Chalong, whom officers named only as ‘Manas’. He was subsequently tracked down and arrested.
During questioning, the suspect confessed to attempting to commit theft. He has been charged with attempted theft at night using a vehicle and remains in custody for further legal proceedings.
Police said they are continuing to investigate whether the suspect may be linked to other theft incidents in the area, and warned that further charges may follow if additional offences are uncovered.
