Teacher transferred for stapling note to pupil’s shirt

PHETCHABUN: The education minister yesterday (July 26) ordered the transfer of a teacher who stapled a note to a first grader’s shirt at a school in Phetchabun province.

Education Minister Treenuch Thienthong said she wanted the teacher to be transferred from the school temporarily, reports the Bangkok Post.

“The teacher may not have any ill intentions, but the communication method may upset parents,” Ms Treenuch said.

The minister’s remark was in response to a woman’s Facebook post on Monday, saying a piece of paper was stapled to her child’s collar.

The note was to inform parents to have their child wear a traditional Thai outfit or flower-patterned clothing on Tuesday when pupils at Anuban Phetchabun School would participate in an activity to mark the National Thai Language Day.

According to the mother’s post, her husband noticed the note on the child’s shirt when he picked up the child from school. He was later kicked out of a LINE chat group of their child’s class after he had tried to talk to other parents in the chat group about the incident.

The mother wrote that the teacher could have put a note in her child’s bag instead of using a “humiliating communication method”.

Weeraphol Thika, director of Anuban Phetchabun School, posted an apology via the school’s Facebook page yesterday.

The teacher has been transferred to another branch of the school, said the post.

Some US school districts forbid kids wearing designer clothing." Free thinking leads to bad behavior.."
is right right out of the fascist's handbook. And in Thailand, adults too are expected to conform, each day of the week has it's own shirt requirement in gov offices.

I'm with Kamala Pete on this one. It is exactly the reason that when entering the military, all recruits get their heads shaved then forfeit their street clothes in exchange for uniforms...no stripes, no bangles...a perfectly level playing field. In a status conscious society like Thailand, many poor kids would constantly be the target of ridicule through no fault of their own.

Kamala Pete | 28 July 2022 - 12:11:23

Christy - this time I have to disagree with you. Uniforms are an effective way of preventing discrimination against kids from poorer families who can't afford the expensive runners and "cool gear" of the richer kids. Uniforms level the social playing field and give all the kids the opportunity to "belong to the group". Your "free thinking" often leads to bad behav...

Uniforms are extremely effective in hampering free thinking- ask any army. One merely has to make a google search to view the reams of evidence.

Mrs. Sweet, children or students wear a uniform in many democratic countries. Did not hamper them from "free thinking" !

Not the smartest teacher in country by far but not the only one. Where do they find these type of people and who approves them to be able to teach children? The whole Thai education system is stuck in the 19th century, that is why Thailand has one of the lowest IQ averages in SE Asia.

solar_serfer | 27 July 2022 - 21:12:25

this teacher is a danger for society, a pervert of a weird sort. should be kept well away from any social work

christysweet | 27 July 2022 - 16:55:40

This uniformity of dressing- both in children and adults is not condusive to free thinking, non-compliant citizens that a democracy demands in order to function as such.

As long this kind of crazy 'teachers' are allowed in schools, that long the Thai education system fails to contribute for the better future of Thailand. Teacher should loose his teaching license for 4-5 years. Not just moved to other part of the school. Out with this moral damaging idiot.
