In a statement released yesterday (May 29), the TAT said that alcoholic beverages may now generally be sold between 11am and midnight nationwide, effective immediately.

According to the TAT, the revised regulations issued by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Committee formally incorporate the previously restricted 2pm-5pm period into normal alcohol sales hours.

The change follows a six-month trial period introduced late last year that temporarily relaxed restrictions on alcohol sales during the afternoon.

Under the updated rules, tourists and residents can generally purchase alcoholic beverages from licensed retailers, restaurants and authorised venues between 11am and 12 midnight. Sales outside those hours remain prohibited unless separate legal exemptions apply.

The TAT noted that some locations continue to operate under different conditions, including international airport areas serving international passengers, hotels, licensed entertainment venues, approved event spaces and designated areas where alcohol service is permitted under specific laws.

Visitors were advised to follow guidance provided by venue operators, as service hours may vary depending on the type of licence and location.

The TAT also reminded tourists that existing alcohol-control laws remain in force.

Thailand’s legal drinking age remains 20 years, while the sale and consumption of alcohol continue to be restricted in certain locations, including temples, government offices, petrol stations, public parks and some public transport areas, unless otherwise permitted by law.

“Visitors are advised to buy and consume alcohol only through licensed venues, carry identification where required, avoid drinking in prohibited public areas, and arrange safe transport after consuming alcohol. Alcohol sales may also be restricted during elections, major religious days, or other official periods announced by the relevant authorities,” the TAT said in its announcement.

“Thailand continues to welcome visitors to enjoy its dining, leisure, and nightlife experiences responsibly, while respecting local laws, public safety, and community well-being,” the announcement concluded.
