Syrian, Egyptian arrested in Patong for overstay

PHUKET: Two men, one a Syrian and the other an Egyptian national, have been arrested at separate locations in Patong for overstaying in the country.

According to a police statement, following investigations, immigration officers accompanied by Patong Police arrested Syrian national Ahmed Al Massri, 23, at The A@M Patong hotel on Nanai Rd. He was found to be staying in Thailand illegally 1,740 days after his permit-to-stay expired.

Officers also arrested Egyptian national Mahmoud Mohamed Ahmed Hassanein, 26, at the Cherry Apartment on Soi Saenglert off Nanai Rd. He was found to be staying in the country illegally 101 days after his permit-to-stay expired.

Bot men were taken to Patong Police Station for processing.

The police statement did not clarify when the two men were arrested, or what led to their arrest.

The police statement did note that the arrests were carried out under ‘Operation X-ray Out Law Foreigner’, as mandated by the Immigration Bureau of the Royal Thai Police.
