Patong Police were called to the scene, a small hotel on Thaweewong Rd, at around 12:58pm.
Officers, emergency responders, including a forensic doctor from Vachira Phuket Hospital and rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation, were dispatched to the scene.
Police confirmed that the Swedish man* had been staying alone at the hotel. His body was discovered lying on his side on the bed, with no visible signs of a struggle or forced entry, according to officers.
A housekeeper told police that the man had checked into the hotel on Apr 10 and had regularly consumed alcohol in his room.
She knocked on his door to clean the room but received no response. She returned later and saw through the window that he was lying on the bed in the same position. When there was still no response at noon, she entered the room and discovered he had passed away.
CCTV footage showed the Swedish man returning alone to his room at approximately 9:44pm Tuesday (Apr 22), police said.
Authorities estimate he died between 6am and 8am the following morning.
Police and forensic experts are continuing to investigate the cause of death. Some personal medication was found in the room, and a post-mortem examination is to be conducted at Vachira Phuket Hospital to determine further details, police noted.
The Swedish Embassy has been notified and is assisting in coordinating with the man’s family, Patong Police said.
Meanwhile, Kusoldharm Foundation rescue workers were called to another hotel, on Soi Saensabai, at 11;50pm last night after the body of a foreign tourist was found in a room there.
Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation marked on its brief report: “Foreign man died in the room due to chronic disease”
The man’s body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket Town.
No further details about the man’s death were provided.
