Karon Police were notified of the incident at about 2am, with confirmation of the case later received from Chalong Hospital at 8:20am, police reported.

The crash occurred on Patak Rd in front of Mae Somjit Market, in Karon.

Police identified the injured man as Peter Alf Mikael Fransson, a Swedish national. He was found unconscious at the scene with serious injuries.

According to the preliminary investigation by Karon Police, officers responding to the scene arrived to find a white Toyota van with Phuket licence plates stopped in the middle of the road in the lane heading from Karon toward Chalong, but facing in the direction of Karon.

The driver of the van was identified as Manaswee Lemsoh.

About 10 metres away, officers found a black Honda PCX motorcycle, also registered in Phuket, lying on the roadside in the same traffic lane. The motorcycle had sustained heavy damage to its front right side.

Nearby, Mr Fransson was found lying on the road.

Rescue workers from the Sam Ao Rescue Unit, under the Karon Municipality, arrived at the scene and found the victim in critical condition and unconscious. They performed CPR before coordinating with an ambulance from Chalong Hospital.

The victim was transferred halfway to the hospital, where he was taken over by medical staff and rushed to Chalong Hospital for emergency treatment.

Police stated that initial findings suggest the motorcycle suddenly emerged from a side street, cutting in front of the van, which was travelling in its normal lane. The sudden manoeuvre reportedly left the van driver unable to avoid the collision.

No other injuries were reported, and no property damage beyond the vehicles involved was noted.

The police report of the accident made no mention of the speed of the van at the time of the collision.

Karon Police Chief Pol Col Pathapi Srichai confirmed that officers are continuing their investigation, including reviewing the scene layout and gathering further evidence to determine the exact cause of the crash and whether any charges will be filed.
