Kamala Police Capt Charnnarong Prakongear received a call from staff at The Regent Hotel on Soi Bangwan (or Soi OrBorTor) where it was stated that one of their guests, a foreign man, had been found hanged in his room.

Police arrived at the four storey hotel with Kusoldharm rescue workers and Kamala Kuipai and were led to a ground floor room where the body of the Swedish man (name withheld until his family have been notified) was hanging by a nylon rope from the bathroom door frame.

Capt Charnnarong said police found no signs of robbery or assault in the room or on the body and that he believed the man had been dead for at least three to four hours before his body was discovered.

“Staff said he checked in a week ago. No one knows why the man took his own life, but it is possible stress may be to blame,” he said.

“The body was taken to Patong Hospital for doctors to determine the time and cause of death, and we will question guests and staff to see if they can provide us with more information,” he added.
