The suspect, identified as Boran Kesen, 50, was apprehended yesterday (Apr 9) following coordination with the Nordic Police Liaison Office and the Foreign Affairs Division of the Royal Thai Police.

Phuket Immigration reported that Boran is the subject of an international arrest warrant under Red Notice No. A-3951/3-2026, issued on Mar 9.

The warrant relates to a firearms offence, with the weapon allegedly used in a fatal shooting in Årsta, Sweden, on Sept 17, 2020. Authorities in Sweden also suspect him of involvement in drug trafficking and violent crime as part of a transnational organised crime network.

The operation was carried out under the Immigration Bureau Region 6 Commander Pol Maj Gen Chutharet Yingyongdamrongsakul, with officers from Phuket Immigration and Phuket Provincial Police jointly tracking the suspect to his residence.

Officers located Boran at a condominium unit in Kathu, where they entered the room with assistance from management. He was found inside the bedroom and arrested after officers identified themselves, police said.

Investigators later confirmed that Boran had entered Thailand via Khuan Don Immigration checkpoint in Satun on Jan 4 on a tourist visa valid until Mar 4. He was granted an extension of stay until Apr 3, which had expired prior to his arrest.

He has been charged with remaining in the country after his permission to stay had expired.

Boran was handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings. Authorities said he will be deported to Sweden in accordance with immigration procedures after legal action in Thailand is completed.
