Pol Lt Col Surachat Thongyai, an investigating officer at Patong Police Station, received a report at about 12pm yesterday (May 13) from a representative of MeSpace Self Storage Patong, a storage rental business located at the Jungceylon shopping centre.
Police were asked to inspect the locker on the second floor after staff discovered a cache of firearms and ammunition hidden inside.
Kirakorn Chiewchan, the company’s representative, told police the locker had been rented under the name of Elmi Ahmed Mohamed, a Swedish national, who had failed to pay rent for more than 120 days and could not be contacted.
According to Mr Kirakorn, staff opened the locker on Tuesday (May 12) in line with company procedure for overdue units and discovered the weapons inside before immediately notifying police.
Investigators from the Patong Police investigative unit attended the scene and found four Glock 9mm pistols and one CZ handgun, along with two boxes of 9mm ammunition containing 50 rounds each, for a total of 100 rounds.
Initial checks found that all five firearms carried registration numbers.
Police are now investigating the ownership of the weapons and how they came to be stored in the locker.
