The first object was found this morning (June 26) on Patong Beach, near the Loma Intersection on Thaweewong Rd, in front of a hotel. Officials revealed the object is believed to have been placed earlier this week.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers, along with Phuket Provincial Police, Region 8 Police and Patong Police, secured the scene and destroyed the suspicious object as a safety precaution to protect residents and tourists in the popular beach area.
Forensic teams later conducted a detailed inspection of the remains.
Shortly after, reports emerged of similar suspicious objects being found at Laem Phromthep, another key tourist destination in Phuket. Authorities rushed to inspect the site.
In a related development, heightened security measures have been introduced at Phuket International Airport following the discovery of a suspicious object hidden in a motorcycle parked near the domestic terminal last night. (See stories here and here.)
Monchai Tanode, General Manager of Phuket International Airport, led an inspection of airport facilities today to reassure the public and passengers of the airport’s safety readiness.
Airports of Thailand’s Phuket branch (AoT Phuket), which operates the airport, announced that stringent security protocols are now in place. Passengers and visitors are being asked to cooperate with security personnel as part of efforts to maintain safety and ensure smooth airport operations.
“Safety is our standard, and service is our heart,” AoT Phuket stated.
