On a number of occasions over the past month, the government has given reassurances following various complaints by residents that water supply – pressure and flow – has been insufficient.
Citing available reserves, Governor Nisit has said that the shortage this year would be manageable if residents were conservative.
Meanwhile, Phuket Waterworks Authority have concurred that reserves should be sufficient through to May, when the Southwesterly monsoon winds are expected to bring back the rains and thus replenish the island’s main reservoirs. (story here)
However, the government has agknowledged that some communities will be more impacted than others, as a result of distribution infrastructure factors.
The Phuket News has received several comments from readers confirming this.
According to the reports, most communities affected are north of Phuket Town – in Rassada, Ko Kaew and in Thalang, for example.
In our latest survey, we ask readers to report if they have been affected by supply issues or not over the past month.
Respondents can choose from the following answers:
1. Yes, there has been a constant supply problem.
2. Yes, water supply has not been sufficient at times.
3. No, water supply has been as usual.
4. No, I have my own well or rain cistern.
To help us identify affected and unaffected communities, respondents are also asked to denote where in Phuket they stay – be it in Phuket Town, Chalong, Rawai, Karon, Patong, Cherng Talay, Kathu, Thalang, Rassada or elsewhere.
