The announcement was made at a press conference held yesterday (Dec 22) at Phra Athit Plaza, Surin Beach, overseen by Phuket Vice Governor Amnuay Pinsuwan.
Mr Amnuay was joined by Manoch Panchalad, President of the Cherng Talay Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, Lertchai Wangtrakuldee, Director of the Phuket office of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Wisut Romin, Senior Permanent Secretary of Thalang District.
The event serves as the official countdown to the New Year and is geared towards the many tourists that stay in the Surin Beach area at this busy time of year and is a chance for many people of different nationalities to come together and enjoy the festivities, Mr Manoch explained.
The event call also help stimulate the local economy as a wide variety of stalls will be showcasing produce from local farmers and souvenir goods and handicrafts from various entrepreneurs.
There will be live musical entertainment with concerts from a variety of well known performers as well as numerous stalls offering delicious food and beverages along the beach front.
Activities and attractions scheduled for the three-day event include a giant kite display on the beach, a spectacular drone light show which will last for over 10 minutes and a grand firework display to officially welcome in the New Year at 12 midnight on Dec 31.
The announcement came after Phuket Town Mayor Saroj Angkhanapilas confirmed on Friday that Phuket City Municipality will hold its ‘Discover Phuket Countdown 2024’ event to usher in the New Year, with festivities centred in the Phuket Old Town area.
