Chief of the Hat Noppharat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park Worapoj Lomlim was notified yesterday (Mar 12) that a yacht had sunk about one kilometre from the shore of Railay Beach.
Hat Noppharat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park officers arrived at the scene to find a mast emerging from the sea.
Officers placed buoys in the water to mark off the area in order to prevent any collision when other boats approach the scene.
The owner was contacted and requested to move the sailboat as soon as possible.
Mr Worapoj said, “The owner of the yacht is a Thai national who runs a tourism business on Railay Beach.
“On Sunday afternoon (Mar 11), the owner moored the boat off the beach before going ashore. At this stage we believe water got into the sailboat, causing it to sink. Luckily, no one was on the yacht at the time.”
