The clearout came last week, with readers of The Phuket News reporting the removal of sunbeds of all operators but one,
“Only the Surin beach club is authorised to have chairs, tables and large cushions on the beach. Why?” one reader posed.
The Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organisation (Cherng Talay OrBorTor) so far has not reported the clearing out of any operators from Surin Beach.
The clearout follows the high-profile ceremony earlier this month to mark the beginning of construction on the “Glass Terrace” at Surin Beach, during which officials and observers had a bird’s-eye view of Surin Beach and the long lines of sunbeds and umbrellas stretching the length of the beach.
The clearout at Surin beach also follows Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat leading a raid Kata Beach, where three sunbed and umbrella operators were arrested for operating illegally.
