The video, posted by Kornphakwat Phuwanaipradit, 19, a Food and Nutrition student at Phuket Vocational College, has been viewed more than 4 million times.
Mr Kornphakwat explained to reporters yesterday (Apr 9) that he had bought the shrimp at Makro at about 8am.
“I placed the shrimp under the seat of my friend’s motorbike and we went to our classes,” Mr Kornphakwat said.
"I forgot to take the shrimp out when I arrived at the college, and when I came back at about midday the shrimp were fully cooked.
“I never thought that something like this would happen,” he added.
Not to put good food to waste, Mr Kornphakwat said he would use the shrimp to make “shrimp sasa”.
Over the past month, Phuket has experienced daily maximum temperatures ranging from 37.5°C to 39°C, with very little reprieve in the form of rain.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecasts another high of 39°C today (Apr 10), but a breeze has soothed the heat today, with the temperature at 10am today recorded at a cool 34°C.
