Police were called to the school at about 12:10pm.
Officers were told that the 10-year-old boy was playing with friends on the school’s football field. According to witnesses, the boy jumped up and hung from the crossbar of the football crossbar.
The structure suddenly collapsed, causing the boy to fall to the ground, where the heavy beam struck his head.
Emergency responders from the Wichit Municipality Rescue Unit rushed to the scene and transported the boy to Vachira Phuket Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Pol Lt Prachaya Siyom, joined by Wichit Police Chief Pol Col Chatree Chueakaew led an investigation into the incident. They were joined at the scene by school director Opas Kongyot and the village headman.
Police, and officials, are continuing their enquiries to determine whether safety protocols were adequately followed at the school.
The community is mourning the loss of the young student, who was described as a bright and energetic child.
