The incident occurred at about 8pm on Wednesday night (Jan 14), said the homeowner, saying that the beam fell from a crane at the construction site of The Petit Tycoon condominium project, developed by The Chardonnay, located at Soi Surin 8/3.

Footage of the incident was later shared on the popular ‘Hod Jang Phuket’ Facebook page, showing the steel beam embedded inside the house while a distressed female resident described the damage.

The page caption read: “Phuket is no less terrified!! A luxury condo project in Surin Beach had steel beam fall from a crane, piercing a house. Residents are frightened, with young children and bedridden patients among them, fearing a repeat incident!!”

In the video, the homeowner recounts the moment with visible shock, explaining that the house had already been affected by a previous incident at the same construction site involving water flowing into neighbouring properties.

“First, water poured from the roof onto every car. This is the jackpot. This is steel. Oh my god, it’s huge,” she said. “Normally my nephews sit here and work. This is really not okay. It’s so big. It must have shaken the whole house.”

The steel bar was shown protruding through part of the structure, with residents saying the impact caused cracking throughout the home. No injuries were reported.

Following the video’s circulation online, numerous social media users expressed concern about construction safety, particularly as large-scale development continues across Phuket.

Comments questioned who would be held responsible had the steel struck a person and urged the homeowner to seek an independent structural assessment rather than relying on project-appointed personnel. Others noted that it was fortunate no one was injured or killed.

The video also referenced a perceived rise in crane-related incidents linked to construction projects on the island.

Police later confirmed that the homeowner filed a complaint with Cherng Talay Police Station. Officers subsequently inspected the scene and held discussions with representatives of the condominium project.

However, according to relatives of the homeowner, no clear resolution has yet been reached. Responsibility for the incident remains unclear, with parties within the project reportedly disputing internal accountability.

As of the time of reporting, the steel beam remained lodged in the house, with no permanent repairs carried out.

Ms Porn (surname withheld), a relative of the homeowner, said the family wants the incident to serve as a warning to both construction operators and the public.

She called on developers to strengthen safety controls and oversight to prevent similar incidents, warning that future accidents could result in serious injuries or fatalities if safety standards are not improved.

“This time we were lucky,” she said. “Next time, someone could be killed.”
