Wichit Police were notified of the blaze at the Chao Fah Variety Market, commonly known as Naka Night Market or the ‘Tailgate Market’, on Chao Fa Suan Luang Rd  at about 11am.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found the fire engulfing a stall in the market’s fourth row of vendors. Thick black smoke and flames rising into the air caused panic among traders and shoppers, many of whom rushed to move goods and belongings away from the area.

Firefighters and disaster prevention and mitigation officials worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby stalls and buildings within the market complex.

The fire was subsequently brought under control.

No injuries or fatalities have been reported.

Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage. Forensic officers are expected to conduct a detailed examination of the scene once it is deemed safe to enter.
