At 3pm today (June 6), Capt Eakkarat Chartphai of the Wichit Police received a report from a local resident that a motorbike had been involved in an accident opposite the Promphan store on Chao Fa West Rd.
Capt Eakkarat together with Ruamjai Kupai rescue workers arrived at the scene to find a 20-wheeler trailer truck stationary in the middle of the road.
Under the truck was the body of a Thai male, Mr Jeerawat Chit-euea, 26. Nearby was Yamaha R15* sport bike and a crash helmet.
The truck driver, Mr Raewat Phorleela, 33, was also at the scene.
A van driver who witnessed the accident, Mr Thepwarakon Saensuk, 28, explained to police that he was driving behind the 20-wheeler in the left-hand lane, the motorbike was also in the left-lane but suddenly tried to take over the truck.
“As he tried to overtake the truck the driver of the motorbike lost control and hit a car in the right-hand lane. The man’s body then bounced under the wheels of the truck,” Mr Thepwarakon said.
Capt Eakkarat said, “We are investigating the incident. CCTV footage will be checked.”
The body of the man was transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital.
* The motorbike was later confirmed to be a Yamaha R15 sport bike, not a Yamaha M-Slaz as originally reported. The error is regretted.
