The accident occured on northbound Chao Fa West Rd, in Vichit. When rescue workers arrived the scene, fire fighters were focused on dousing the fire of the van, which took 10 minutes to bring under control.

The van was carrying Bangkok plates, and was completely damaged inside and out from the fire, damages estimated to be about B500,000.

In the middle of the road nearby was a bronze coloured Isuzu pick-up truck with Phuket plates and whose tail-end was badly damaged.

Witnesses said the speeding van was heading north-bound into the city and aparently did not see the parked-up truck or could not avoid hitting it due to high speed.

Both vehicles drivers escaped serious injury.
