The arrest was made at about 10pm on Saturday (July 25) in the baggage X-ray screening area of the International Terminal, Sakhu Police reported.
Police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Morne Dannhauser, a South African national.
According to Sakhu Police, airport security staff alerted officers after spotting suspected ammunition during baggage screening. A patrol team responded and found six rounds of ammunition of an unknown calibre loaded into a single magazine inside the suspect’s luggage.
The ammunition and magazine were seized as evidence.
Police said Mr Dannhauser was informed of his rights and the charges against him before being taken into custody. He was then transferred to Sakhu Police Station along with the seized items for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Authorities also notified the South African Embassy in accordance with standard procedures.
The case is being handled by investigators at Sakhu Police Station.
