Armed with water guns and buckets, revelers soaked each other in good-natured fun under the hot sun, turning the street into a vibrant splash zone. Street vendors capitalised on the excitement, selling water toys and other Songkran essentials along the bustling route.

Authorities were out in full force, with police, tourist police, administrative officials and staff from various agencies deployed to ensure public safety and provide assistance to tourists. Officers were stationed across the Patong area, ready to support the large number of visitors celebrating the holiday.

The beachfront was equally lively, with many tourists taking part in beach activities and joining in water play along the three-kilometre stretch of Patong Beach. Some even brought their water guns to the shoreline, turning the seaside into an extension of the street celebrations.

Later this evening, Patong Municipality is set to host the official opening ceremony for ‘Songkran Festival Patong 2025’ at Bangla Square near Patong Beach. The event will feature a mix of traditional and modern entertainment, including a ‘Ramwong Wien Krok’ folk performance, DJ sets, long drum shows, almsgiving and a water-pouring ceremony to honour elders. Organisers expect a strong turnout of both locals and tourists, continuing the tradition of lively and inclusive celebrations.

Meanwhile, festivities are also planned across other parts of Phuket. Songkran events tomorrow will take place in Phuket Old Town under the theme ‘Songkran Kebaya, Wearing Batik Cloth’, part of the ‘Songkran Baan Chan’ event. Celebrations will be held in front of Limelight Shopping Mall on Dibuk Rd and at Queen Sirikit Park as part of the 10th annual Water Festival 2025: Thai Way – Great Songkran, Great Fun’

As the island embraces the spirit of Songkran, authorities continue to encourage safe and respectful celebrations, highlighting both the cultural significance and joyful energy that define Thailand’s most famous festival.
