The raid followed a tip-off from people in the area, reporting that gambling was taking place at the site, with a lot of noise every Saturday and Sunday.

Lt Col Surasak Peungyeam and Sub Lt Wattanachai Klongpradit of the 25th Military Circle led the raid on the unregistered premises in Srisoonthorn, Thalang, just before 1pm.

The officers waited until the gambling was underway, with people negotiating their bets on Muay Thai fights shown on television.

When the officers moved in, some of the gamblers attempted to flee, but had their escape curtailed. In total, 17 people were arrested: 13 men and 4 women.

Seized in the raid was one old television set and just B200, as well as a “menu” board listing dishes and names with a very odd assortment of prices as if they were payout odds.

All 17 suspects were taken to Thalang Police Station to be charged with illegal gambling.
