However, just having a presence is also not enough anymore. You need to understand how to illuminate your company/brand and separate yourself from the average business.
Here are a few tips to consider when creating your next Facebook post:
- Keep the text short and to the point. The attention span of people have decreased dramatically. Studies have shown that the average person in the 1980s had a threshold of 20 minutes. In 2015 it has plummeted to a staggering 8 seconds.
- Use visually appealing content. It is important to understand that we as humans are visual creatures. One image can convey an enormous amount of emotion which text can never do.
- Make people feel something. Emotions are the catalyst which drives all social media. It is our yearning to connect to others and share our emotions which fuels these platforms. If you are boring, you will not be noticed.
- Make sure your business has a well-defined voice. Is your business persona professional, friendly or comedic? Pick a personality and stick with it.
- It is incredibly important to understand that there are two kinds of posts. A post that adds value to your audience and a selling post. Adding value may include a humorous video or an educational article. A selling post could be a promotion you are running or a discount you are offering.
- Never mix these two! Always be clear about the purpose of your posts. Value added posts should always outweigh selling content.
- Join in on the conversation. Get to know your audience and talk with them. Even if it’s not about your product/industry. It will pay you dividends down the line.
- Lastly, always put yourself in the shoes of your audience. If you treat them with respect and add value to their lives, they will return the favour and become loyal customers.
