The incident happened at 12:42pm this afternoon when the bus, license plate 10-1152, was travelling on Ban Don Rd in Cherng Talay on its way to the airport.

The Emergency Service Vehicle was behind the bus but had to wait over 2-kilometres until the latter gave way and allowed the ambulance to pass.

It was not confirmed in reports whether the ambulance had its lights flashing and sirens sounding or whether any patients were aboard.

However, a clip went viral on social media which brought the inicident to the attention of the Phuket Smart Bus Company, who were quick to respond.

“We checked CCTV footage of the incident and discovered that the driver did eventually give way to the emergency services vehicle but not within the ideal timeframe,” a spokesman for the company told The Phuket Info Center.

“It was 2km before the driver yielded, which is considered much later than expected,” the spokesman added.

“The company has issued an official warning to the driver in question and will review the rules for safe road use to ensure all our drivers strictly follow the rules.

“It is vitally important that all our drivers be considerate on the road at all times to ensure that everyone can use the Smart Bus service with peace of mind.”

The spokesperson added that the company is willng to accept all comments criticising the behaviour of the driver and that it simultaneously extends apologies for any inconvenience his actions may have caused.
The company will improve and be diligent to ensure no repeat behaviour is witnessed again, it said, adding that any impolite driving witnessed by its drivers can be reported via LINE @pksb.
