Six arrested in Phuket anti-drug and crime campaign

PHUKET: Six people were arrested on Saturday (July 23) and Sunday (July 24) as part of police’s ongoing anti-drug and crime campaign being carried out across the island.

Anti-narcotics police led by Phuket City Police’s Maj Rittichai Chumchuy arrested six people over the weekend who between them were found to be in possession 7.47 grams of crystal meth (ya ice), 77 methamphetamine pills (ya bah), one 9mm pistol and 40 bullets.

Those arrested were named as follows:

1. Arnon Lakthan, 21

2. Ms Orawong Changleg, 27

3. Kornaphat Tipsak, 32

4. Ms Winitchakarn Nganreepreaw, 23

5. Sommart Phumi, 39

6. Kittisak Lengjaroen, 30

According to the police report, on July 23 at 3:30pm, officers arrested 21-year-old Arnon at a house in Moo Baan Poonsap in Chalong after police learned that he had been selling drugs from his backyard to people in Chalong. Police seized from him 5.12g of ya ice, 20 bullets(.38) and drug taking paraphernalia.

Arnon told police he bought the ya ice from a dealer named Orawong who rented a room at the Plus Condominium in Kathu and sold the drug to people whom contacted him by phone.

At 6pm on July 23, police then arrested Ms Orawong who had in her possession of .54g of ya ice, 20 bullets (9mm) and other seized items.

By 11:30pm police were led to two more suspects, Kornaphat Tipsak, 32, and Ms Winitchakarn Nganreepreaw, 23. They were arrested at Thana Villa in Kathu with 1.42g of ya ice, 8 ya bah pills,one 9mm pistol and five bullets.

“The arrest came after undercover officers told us that the two had also been selling drugs to people in the area, and that they were in the drug network of “Kamonwit Maneesri”, said Maj Rittichai.

The next day (July 24) after questioning these above named suspects we arrested two more people, Sommart Phumi, 39, with 70 ya bah pills and Kittisak Lengjaroen, 30 with .39g of ya ice.

Arnon and Orawong were charged with possession of a Category 1 and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. Kornaphat, Sommart and Ms Winitchakarn face the charge of possession of a Category 1 with intent to sell, while Kornaphat faces the charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Kitisak faes the charge of possession of Category 1 drug.
