The crackdown was carried out between 1am and 2am yesterday (Mar 18), following complaints from residents about disturbances caused by speeding vehicles fitted with loud exhaust systems.

The operation was ordered by Phuket City Police Chief Pol Col Chatree Chukaew, who assigned Pol Lt Col Sarun Chaiwut, head of the station’s patrol unit, to oversee the enforcement effort.

Officers established a checkpoint on the bypass road, stopping and inspecting 15 cars and 30 motorcycles, as well as checking a total of 55 individuals.

Police reported that nine people were recorded as belonging to “high-risk” groups, while three knives were seized during the operation. Six motorcycles found to be fitted with excessively loud exhausts were confiscated, and one individual had their identification document seized.

Phuket City Police also confirmed that all vehicles driven by tourists without valid driving licences were impounded. In addition, two vehicle owners are facing legal action for allowing unlicensed drivers to use their vehicles.

The six confiscated motorcycles have been handed over to investigators at Phuket City Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to address public complaints and improve road safety, particularly during late-night hours when such disturbances are most frequently reported.
