Six arrested in heroin raids

PHUKET: Six suspects have been arrested in a coordinated drug crackdown led by Wichit Police, with officers seizing heroin, drug paraphernalia and other evidence during a series of raids carried out yesterday (Apr 8).

Officers arrested 29-year-old Jirakrit ‘Bas’ Buakaew from Surat Thani Province after he was found in possession of more than 79 grammes of heroin packaged in multiple plastic bags, along with drug packaging materials, a digital scale.

Officers also seized a Toyota Vigo pickup truck registered to Jirakrit that is believed to be used in drug distribution.

A field drug test confirmed Kirakrit tested positive for heroin use. He faces charges of possession with intent to distribute a Category 1 narcotic (heroin), use of heroin, and contributing to public drug proliferation, police said.

In a separate arrest, 31-year-old Anuwat ‘Golf’ Saengkaew, also from Surat Thani, was found with small quantities of heroin totaling approximately 0.15g.

Officers also seized his a white Honda Scoopy motorbike.

Anuwat tested positive for heroin use and has been charged with possession and use of a Category 1 narcotic, police said.

In the series of raids yesterday, four other men were also arrested for using heroin. The four were named as Yongyut ‘Night’ Na Songkhla, 25, from Phatthalung; Thawatchai ‘Boat Yai’ Kratok, 23, from Phuket; Nattawut ‘Nat’ Songmuang, 32, from Phuket; and Kittisak ‘Ken’ Jaismut, 24, from Surat Thani.

All tested positive for heroin and were arrested inside a rented room on Chao Fa West Rd in Wichit, police said..

All six suspects were taken to Wichit Police Station and charged accordingly, police noted.

Wichit Police emphasized their ongoing commitment to curbing drug activity in the area and urged members of the public to report any suspicious behaviour.
