No injuries were reported from the fire.
Firemen on five fire trucks were called to the scene at 11:50pm, and took 40 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
“The fire started in one shop and quickly spread to neighbouring stalls,” said Lt Weerayut Thansirisukkhaworrakul of the Karon police.
One resident told police that he reported the fire after noticing flames bellowing out from the market as he drove past.
“I saw thick smoke coming out of one shop, then the fire quickly consuming the stall next door, so he I quickly called the police,” he said.
Officers have yet to determine the cause of the blaze, but suspect the fire was started by a short circuit.
“We are still investigating the origins of the fire and we have yet to contact all the parties affected to determine the estimated cost of damage,” Lt Weerayut said.
