The operation took place last Thursday evening (Apr 30), targeting key tourist zones including Bangla Rd and Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Rd in Patong. Authorities carried out coordinated inspections of entertainment venues, restaurants and other businesses, focusing on licensing compliance, foreign employment and drug prevention measures.
Officials reported uncovering multiple violations, most notably an air gun shooting range operating without a permit on Bangla Rd. A second shooting range was also found to be non-compliant, holding only partial documentation while allegedly in possession of unauthorised firearms, some with serial numbers removed
Investigators further noted that the premises had not submitted a required building construction permit application to Patong Municipality.
All firearms and ammunition found at the premises were confiscated. Four employees were detained at the scene and later handed over to investigators at Kathu District Office for legal proceedings.
The raid formed part of a wider “social order” campaign led by Phuket Vice Governor Adul Chuthong, alongside Phuket MP Chalermpong Saengdee, Kathu District Chief Akrapol Suthirak Jitsupap and officers from Patong Police Station, Tourist Police and other relevant agencies. The operation began with a coordinated deployment from the plaza in front of the Bangla Police Box.
Authorities said the campaign is aimed at reinforcing safety and order in Phuket’s most popular tourist areas, amid ongoing concerns over illegal business activities.
Officials stressed that maintaining Patong’s reputation as a world-class destination depends not only on visitor numbers, but also on ensuring safety and convenience. Measures under the campaign include increased patrols, stricter inspections, expanded CCTV coverage in high-risk areas and improved infrastructure to better support tourism.
They added that continued cooperation between government agencies, private operators and local businesses will be key to ensuring sustainable tourism growth while maintaining public confidence in the resort town.
