Thalang Police investigators arrested Monop ‘Kook’ Krukul, 34, a resident of Moo 4. Mai Khao, at about 5:30pm yesterday (Nov 27).

Thalang Police reported that seven women in total reported being assaulted in the same manner: on Nov 14 (3:30pm); Nov 18 (9:37am); twice on Nov 19 (10:25pm, 11:50pm); Nov 20 (8:02pm); and twice again last Saturday (Nov 25), once at 7:56am and the second time not specified.

Officers inspected CCTV footage of the attacks. In one attack, the man, described as tall, was wearing a black long-sleeved hoodie. He was riding a black-grey Honda Wave 110i motorbike with a red license plate. Officers were also able to identify several distinguishing marks on him.

Police were able to track down the registered owner of the motorbike, identified as Jariya Chailiang, 33, residing in Moo 8, Thepkrasattri.

Ms Jariya identified the man carrying out the attacks as her husband, Monop. She also confirmed that he was the person with the motorbike in his possession, and used it daily.

Monop was taken to Thalang Police Station to be charged under Section 278 of the Criminal Code, which stipulates: “Section 278 Whoever commits an obscenity to a person more than fifteen years of age by threatening with any means, by doing any act of violence, by taking advantage of that person to be in the condition of inability to resist, or by causing that person to mistake him for the other person, shall be imprisoned not more than ten years or fined not more than two hundred thousand baht, or both.”

Monop apologised for his behaviour, and admitted to being under the influence of drugs at the times of the attacks, police said.

He “did things without realizing it”, Manop told police.

He has a family and has never done anything like this in the past, police noted.
