Staff at the Family Mart in Soi Pasak 7 reported the robbery to the Cherng Talay Police at 10:20am.
“I was at a cash register when a man wearing a red helmet and white-blue jacket with black trousers used a gun to rob the store. At gunpoint he forced me to hand over about B1,000 in cash before speeding away,” Family Mart staffer Nattanicha Numnim told police.
Police checked the store’s CCTV footage and observed the thief heading off along the Baan Don – Baan Ya Rd, before turning onto Thepkrasattri Rd and then taking Route 3030 from Koh Kaew to Kathu.
Later yesterday afternoon, police arrested 50-year-old Jamlang Teabtatong at a house in Moo 7, Kathu. In making the arrest, police seized a white BB gun, a Honda wave motorbike and a red helmet.
Jamlang was taken to Cherng Talay Police Station, where he was questioned until 8pm and then charged with armed robbery, said Cherng Talay Police Chief Col Serm Kwannimit.
“Jamlang admitted that he used the BB gun to rob the store,” Col Serm said.
“He said he needed the money to pay off his debts. He works at a security company nearby, so he chose that store as he knows the area very well,” Col Serm added.
