Kuntang Police were notified at 4pm yesterday that the Chamnina speedboat which was carrying two crewmen from Phi Phi and heading to Koh Lanta was lost at sea.

It has been reported that the captain of Chamnina, named only as Wijit, told police that the boast had run out of fuel and had stopped close to Koh Rok to refill. They left the area with 30 litres of fuel but it is reported they run out of gas again and did not know where they were.

Officials attempted to contact them back received no reply.

Kungtang Police said that fishing boats in the area helped look for the lost boat and its crew near Koh Kradan and Koh Ngai but gave up the effort because of the strong winds and high waves.

Capt Phuchong Rodnikon of the Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command told to The Phuket News today (Aug 4), “The speedboat boat lost contact after 6pm yesterday, we are looking for them in the location where the captain last spoke to police. However, we will expand the search to other areas covering Phuket, Krabi and Phang Nga Bay.

“We do not know if they made it to shore or not. No one has filed a missing person or boat report that we know of. We have little information but will continue our search,” he said.
