Police said the incident took place at about 3pm on Wednesday (Aug 6) at a shop called ‘Kwin Wash, Dry, Fold’ on Chao Fa East Rd in Moo 2, Wichit.
The suspect, named by police as Sayumphu ‘App’ Wongsuwan, of Phuket Town, entered the store posing as a laundry customer. CCTV footage and witness statements revealed he waited until a young Myanmar woman was alone at the counter, then threatened her with a pair of sharp black scissors and demanded money.
Fearing for her safety, the employee handed over B2,140 in cash. The robber then fled.
Wichit Police investigators, led by Lt Col Witthaya Kunnoi under the orders of station Superintendent Col Somsak Thongkliang, identified the suspect and moved to arrest him at about 5:50pm yesterday (Aug 7). He was found in a room, reportedly using drugs at the time.
Sayumphu was taken to Wichit Police Station and charged with armed robbery. He has confessed to the crime and told police he spent the stolen money on drugs.
