At around 9pm on Friday (June 27), officers from the Phuket City Police Station’s investigation unit conducted patrols at various locations to monitor for suspicious activity under heightened security measures.
While on patrol in the Koh Siray area, the officers noticed a man acting suspiciously as he exited a convenience store.
The man, later identified only as ‘Mr Phon’, 24, from Satun province, was stopped for questioning. A search revealed he was carrying a homemade .38-calibre pistol and four rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was taken to Phuket City Police Station for further questioning and has been charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without permission, as well as carrying a firearm in public without proper authorization or justifiable reason.
Police confirmed that legal proceedings against the suspect are now underway as part of the province’s ongoing efforts to maintain public safety.
