Karon Police reported that the accident occurred at approximately 5pm near the Three Bays Viewpoint in Karon. Pol Lt Col Surasak Sudmuang, Duty Investigator at Karon Police Station, arrived at the scene to find the white Isuzu taxi with damage to the front right side.
Lying on the road was the body of the female motorcycle rider, later identified by police only as ‘Ms Polina’. She had been driving a Honda Click with a red plate registered to a motorbike rental business located near Phuket Town.
A male passenger, named as Artem Podmazov, sustained injuries in the crash. Thai news reports described the couple as Russian.
The driver, 50-year-old Sorachai Thaowdaeng, was waiting at the scene.
Police said initial investigations indicated the motorcycle was travelling uphill towards the viewpoint on a steep and winding section of the two-lane road, which is divided by a solid yellow line.
Evidence at the scene suggested the motorcycle crossed into the opposite lane and struck the car travelling downhill from the viewpoint, police noted.
Officers documented the scene and collected evidence as part of ongoing legal proceedings. Further investigations are continuing, police said.
