The woman was arrested at the international departures hall at about 11:40pm last Sunday (Nov 26), report immigration officers at the airport.
Present for the arrest were officers from the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) Region 5 branch, immigration officers reported in a post online.
The woman was arrested for the crime of "conspiring to defraud the public" by pretending to be someone else and “dishonestly or deceptively bringing into the computer system fake computer data, whether in whole or in part, or false computer information, in a way that is likely to cause damage to the people”, the report said.
The woman was handed over to the cyber crime officers to be taken to the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) Region 5 branch in Surat Thani to face prosecution, the report noted.
Last week, immigration officers at the airport arrested a Thai man wanted on an arrest warrant issued by the Sisaket Provincial Court also for cyber crime charges.
He, too, was arrested while trying to leave the country.
The warrant listed the man as wanted for breach of Section 14 (1) of the Computer Crime Act, which stipulates that any person “introducing distorted computer data into the computer system. or counterfeit, whether in whole or in part or false computer information In a manner that is likely to cause damage to the public, which is not an offense of defamation according to the Criminal Code.”
The penalty for breach of Section 14 is a fine of up to B100,000 or up to five years in jail, or both.
