The incident occurred at Tuana Hotels Casa Del Sol, located on Kata Rd. According to Karon Police, the report was received at 3:20pm.
Officers were informed that an elevator carrying six Russian nationals had malfunctioned while travelling from the first floor to the fifth floor.
Those injured were named by police as Olesia Lukanova, 44; Vladimir Butylkin, 43; Vera Lukanova, 16; Liubov Butylkin, 8; Mikhail Medvedko, 46; and Vera Medvedko, 46.
Police said the group – three men, two women and one young girl – had entered the lift on the ground floor. The elevator began to ascend but after moving up only a short distance, the system failed to support the weight.
The lift then dropped, coming to a stop approximately 30 centimetres below the normal floor level.
All six passengers sustained minor injuries.
Emergency responders from Karon Municipality were dispatched to the scene following a call from the Narenthra emergency command centre at 2:25pm. Additional support was provided by rescue units from the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation’s Pearl Centre and an ambulance from Chalong Hospital.
Rescue workers assessed the injured at the scene before transporting them to Dibuk Hospital for treatment.
Initial reports indicated that one man suffered an injury to his left side, while another complained of back pain. Among the women, one had swelling to her left ankle, another reported pain in both ankles, and a third complained of pain in her left foot. The 8-year-old girl reported back pain but was able to walk to the ambulance unaided.
No property damage was reported and no suspects have been named in connection with the incident.
Karon Police Chief Pol Col Pathapi Srichai attended the scene to oversee the initial investigation. The case is being handled by investigating officer Pol Lt Surachach Saenchon.
Police confirmed that a detailed examination of the elevator system will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the malfunction. Authorities said further legal action would follow if any safety violations are found.
Tuana Hotels Casa Del Sol told The Phuket News that the elevator is currently not open for use as it requires repairs and a full assessment of the extent of the damage.
Hotel management said they are unable to provide further details until a technician arrives, which is expected later today. As a result, no formal statement has yet been released pending additional information. The hotel apologised for the inconvenience caused.
Police said investigations were continuing.
