Local law enforcement officers did not disclose the details of the accident itself, but the corresponding incident was reported by the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) on Sunday (Nov 26). Videos from the scene of the incident were also published on social networks.
Phuket Tourist Police confirmed the death with a post online yesterday (Nov 27), explaining that they had the sad duty of informing the man’s family, who had reported him as missing since Saturday.
The man, Vadim Andrianov, had been involved in an accident on Kata Hill (between Kata and Chalong). He suffered critical injuries and died in hospital, the officers explained.
“During the investigation, it was established that this person is the same one who was involved in an accident when a passenger van lost control and collided with a motorcycle in Karon. The man died and his body is being held at Vachira Phuket Hospital,” police said.
According to the brief report by the PPAO, in its long list of accidents noted on that day, the six Chinese tourists in the van and the driver suffered only minor injuries in the accident.
Mr Andrianov had suffered critical injuries. In the images of the scene posted with the report, he had somehow become pinned under the passenger van when the van, with heavy damage to its front, had come to a stop on the grass and dirt beside the road.
After recovering Mr Andrianov from under the vehicle, rescue workers rushed him to Chalong Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
