Karon Police were called to the hotel at 3:30pm.
Police were told that the man was exhibiting symptoms of mania. He was frantic, making loud noises and trying to jump from his room on the fifth floor.
What triggered the episode was unknown, though police reported cannabis and foil paper found in the room.
Officers arrived with a Russian interpreter and, following now-standard tactics, calmed the man down by talking with him through the locked room door, explained Karon Police Deputy Chief Pol Lt Col Wiwat Chamnankit.
Once officers were confident the man had calmed down, officers had hotel staff open the door. The officers then quickly entered the room and restrained the man, Pol Lt Col Wiwat said.
The man was then taken to Chalong Hospital.
Police were to coordinate with the Russian Embassy to take further appropriate action, Pol Lt Col Wiwat said.
