The incident reportedly happened yesterday (February 13) at the Marine fresh market in Patong.

Mikhail Ryzov, 36, from Russia told rescue workers that he had bought fish from an unnamed vendor for the price of B400; however, Mikhail said that when he paid the vendor with a B1,000 note, he did not get change back and an argument broke out.

Witnesses say Mikhail then punched the vendor, who responded by throwing a knife at Mikhail, whose left ear was sliced off, and right eye slashed as a result.

Locals assisted the man in suppressing blood loss until rescue workers arrived and patched him up before taking him to Patong Hospital, where his ear and eye were stitched back up.

Police have yet to comment on the case.
