The Phuket Community Foundation will hold its third charity Rubber Duck Race on February 5 at Laguna Phuket’s Latitude marquee.

As in previous years, the day is also planned to include dragon boat races – organised by the Rawai-Naiharn Dragon Boat Club – a cardboard box race for children, and many other activities for the whole family, including BIS Buddy’s activities for young kids, a bouncy castle and a trampoline.

The organisers say there will be plenty of other activities and competitions for children of all ages, along with various food and drink outlets.

A new event this year will be the Battle of the Young Bands, organised by Legend Music. This is a competition for groups of young musicians from the ages of 10 to 18. The winners will get a custom-made music video, a band photo session and will also get to perform live at the Hard Rock Café in Patong.

The highlight of the day, as always, will be the Great Phuket Rubber Duck Race, in which as many as 2,000 bright yellow rubber ducks will be released to race along the Dusit Canal.

Each duck will be numbered, and the first few ducks to cross the finish line will win big prizes for those who hold tickets with the corresponding numbers.

Proceeds will go to the PCF, which will use them in its grant-making activities, or to finance its two public programmes: establishing toy libraries for children whose parents cannot afford to buy toys; and its motorbike back lights replacement project, aimed at making motorbike riders safer at night.

Dragon boat teams should register with the Rawai-Naiharn Dragon Boat Club (email: events@rawainaiharndragonboatclub.com). Individuals who want to race but cannot put together a team (between 12 and 20 people) can come along on the day and be included in a scratch team.

Entries for the Battle of the Young Bands should be sent to studio@legendmusic.net.
