Police were called to the former officer’s home in Baan Supamas, Pa Khlok, at 11:20am yesterday (Oct 15).

At the scene, officers led by Capt Warawud Sansop of the Thalang Police along with rescue workers found the body of Somnuk Chanapan, 67, lying in a chair at the front of his home with gunshot wounds to his head.

He was dressed in shorts, but no shirt. On the floor beside him was a homemade gun created to fire a single .38-calibre bullet. On a step nearby was a single bullet casing.

Mr Somuk’s wife, Ms Amnuai, 65, told police that Mr Somnuk had suffered bouts of depression since he retired six years ago

She was lying on the sofa in the living room and their son, Mr Pongteap, 35, was eating lunch inside the house when Mr Somnuk carried the gun with him to the front of the house and sat in the chair, she said.

They then heard the gunshot and called police, Ms Amnuai added.

Capt Warawud noted in his report that the death is considered a suicide.
