Phuket City Police reported that the body was discovered at about 9:10pm. The deceased was later identified as Pol Lt Wichan Kaewklom, 58, a former officer at Phuket City Police Station who took early retirement in 2023.
Pol Lt Saruta Phumduang, a deputy investigator at Phuket City Police Station, said she received the report of an unidentified man found dead beside the police apartment building at about 9:20pm and informed her superiors before attending the scene with other officers.
The man was found lying face down on the ground next to the apartment building. Initial findings suggest he fell from an upper floor of the building. A note believed to have been written by the deceased was found in his room.
Police, together with forensic pathologist Dr Arthit Surawisalkul from Vachira Phuket Hospital, conducted a preliminary post-mortem examination at the scene. Officers also documented the area, took photographs and prepared a preliminary scene sketch as part of the investigation.
Police Superintendent Pol Col Chatree Chukaew said officers are continuing to gather evidence, interview witnesses and await detailed forensic results to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities have not yet concluded whether the death was accidental or self-inflicted. The case remains under investigation.
