CCTV footage from Wai Photchana restaurant on Narang–Borrae Rd showed the intruder entering the property at about 3am and prying open the door.
The burglary was thwarted when the owner, Saiwai Chantharamuang, 46, who was still awake inside, walked out to confront the intruder.
The thief walked quickly out of the shop just as Mr Sawai came out carrying his sword.
Mr Saiwai said he gave chase, striking the thief once with the blunt side of a sword in an effort to stop their escape.
He stressed that he did not intend to seriously harm the suspect, only to prevent them from fleeing. The burglar is believed to have suffered minor injuries before escaping.
The suspect fled the scene without gaining entry, and no property was reported stolen.
At 4:07pm the same day, Mr Saiwai filed a complaint with an investigating officer at Wichit Police Station, requesting that police take legal action and expedite efforts to apprehend the thief.
Police confirmed they have received the report and are reviewing CCTV footage while gathering evidence to identify and track down the suspect in accordance with legal procedures.
The incident occurred in the area between Maimorn Resort and the Muang Thong roundabout, near Big C Thung Charoen 1 in Wichit. Police investigations are ongoing.
