“We have not yet found the missing woman, 27-year-old Yang Juan,” Mr Sayan told The Phuket News today (Feb 26).
“Navy and marine police rescuers are continuing their search of the area this morning,” he said.
The update comes two days after a group of five Chinese tourists, including Ms Juan, went swimming against their tour guide’s advice in choppy waters in front of the Hotspring Hotel in Na Toei of Thai Muang District on Saturday (Feb 24).
Meanwhile, Mr Sayan said he is unsure of the current condition of the two rescued men, Jiang Yuping and Jiang Yumong, both 28, who sustained injuries and were taken to Phuket for hospitalisation.
“I am not sure about the current condition of the two men, I have not followed up yet as I have been busy trying to find the missing woman,” said Mr Sayan.
“All I know is they are at the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (OrBorJor) Hospital,” he added.
Another woman and a man – identified as Wang Qi, 29, and Jiang Yufu, 25 – lost their lives and were found on the day.
Anuwat Kangsadanbanpot, 26, a tour guide at a Phuket-based travel firm, told police that he took 29 tourists from Krabi airport to the hotel in Phang Nga. He said he warned everyone not to swim in the sea at dusk as wind and waves were strong and posed a danger to their lives.
However, the five tourists went out to swim at around 6pm despite the warning, said Mr Anuwat.(See story here.)
